Serena Williams beats Maria Sharapova to win Sony Open

Grenada looking to hold a referendum on the CCJ

Grenada will hold a referendum in the next two years to decide on the island-nation’s relationship with the Trinidad & Tobago-based Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), Governor General Sir Carlyle Glean said Wednesday.

Nigeria agencies seek $11.5 billion compensation from Shell for oil spill damage

(Reuters) - Two Nigerian government agencies told a parliamentary hearing on Thursday that Royal Dutch Shell should pay a total of US$11.5 billion in compensation for damage caused by an oil spill at its offshore Bonga field in December 2011.

Jamaica looking to auction more wireless spectrum licences

Jamaica is looking to auction two licences for use of the 700 MHz band, then intention of this process is to attract new entrants to the wireless telecommunications market in the island-nation.

Tanzania: Economy experiences 6.9% growth in 2012

The east African country of Tanzania's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by US$4.5 billion last year compared to 2011, new economic data showed.

The March 2013 figures, published by the Planning Commission, put the total market value of all goods and services produced in Tanzania last year at TSh44.7 trillion (about US$27.95 billion).

Another oil spill reports in the waters off The Bahamas

Bahamas ministry of Transport and Aviation has reported another oil spill on Grand Bahama - the same area that an oil spill occurred this past February.

The Bahamas Oil Refining Company reported the spill last Friday. The cause of the oil spill is yet to be determined. The oil slick is said to have covered a 21-meter (70 feet) stretch of rocks on the beach in the vicinity of the oil refining company's pipelines that connect with a jetty.

Moderate earthquake strikes Trinidad & Tobago - felt in Barbados and Grenada

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake is reported to have struck Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday afternoon, causing some alarm, however, there have been no reported damage or injuries.

South Africa: Nelson Mandela hospitalized
