Haiti-based Sunrise Airways sets Nov. 1 start date for new Haiti-Cuba service

Sunrise Airways has set a November 1, 2013 start date for its new flights between its home base in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and HolguĂ­n, a resort city in southeastern Cuba.

(Reuters) - South Africa's Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) declared a wage dispute on Thursday with platinum producer Lonmin, raising the prospect of sector-wide industrial action in the local platinum industry.

Cayman Islands: New immigration law takes effect today

The new Immigration Reform Bill for the Cayman Islands which was passed by legislators last week, will become law on Monday, extending the term limit for work permits from 7 to 9 years.

Nigeria: 15 feared dead in plane crash near Lagos Airport

(Reuters) - Fifteen people were killed when an Embraer passenger plane crashed shortly after take-off just outside Lagos airport's domestic terminal on Thursday, Nigerian authorities said.

Airports Authority general manager Yakubu Dati told a news conference the plane was an Embraer 120, a Brazilian make.

The Associated Airlines plane was flying from Nigeria's commercial capital to Akure, a southwestern town about 225 kilometers (140 miles) away.

Trinidad & Tobago’s Republic Bank acquires larger stake in Ghana's HFC Bank

Republic Bank now controls 40 percent of the HFC Bank Ghana, after acquiring an additional 7.98 percent shareholding in the Ghanaian financial institution.

In a statement, the Trinidad & Tobago-based bank said that it purchased 23,638,340 ordinary shares at a price of GHS 0.67 (US$0.31) per share, making it the single largest shareholder in HFC Bank Ghana.

Uganda looking to start oil production by 2018

Uganda finally took the first baby steps towards oil production with the assigning of a production licence to the China National Offshore Oil Company, CNOOC.

Following the agreement announced by the east African nation's Ministry of Energy on Wednesday, Uganda now expects commercial extraction of its 1.8 billion barrel oil resource to begin in early 2018 from the King Fisher field.
