Ghana Regulators Plan Market Makers to Boost Bonds With Live Prices

Ghanaian regulators are planning to introduce market making, set up live trading and start debt education programs in a bid to boost bond-market activity in West Africa’s second-biggest economy.

UN states that Foreign Direct Investment flows to Caribbean reaches new high

Early numbers indicate another record year of gold production for Guyana

Guyana states that it expects to have another record production of gold this year with production figures for the month already higher than the output from the same period last year. Shares in Telecom Italia opened higher on Monday after Egyptian tycoon Naguib Sawiris told the media over the weekend he would be prepared to invest in the Italian phone group and bid for its Brazilian unit.

Bahamas gov't acquires majority stake in the Bahamas Telecommunications Company

Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) and the Perry Christie administration in the Bahamas have concluded a deal that will result in the government acquiring majority control of the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC).

CWC said in a statement on Tuesday night, “Cable & Wireless Communications notes today's press speculation in The Bahamas and confirms it has come to an agreement with the government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.”

US hotel giant Marriott announced on Wednesday it had finalized a deal to buy the Protea group, Africa's largest hotel chain, for US$186 million.

Haiti and Guyana projected to lead in growth in Caribbean region in 2014

Haiti and Guyana are expected to lead the economic growth among countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to the United Nations’ annual World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) report 2014.

Grenada steps up - launches relief efforts for Dominica, St Lucia and St Vincent

The National Disaster Management Agency of Grenada has begun efforts to provide relief for St Vincent, St Lucia and Dominica, which suffered from serious storms over the Christmas holiday.

The agency has activated a bank account for donations and is readying a 40-foot container of goods for shipment to St Vincent. The shipment is slated for January 13.
