Namibia finance minister lowers corporate and individual income tax

Namibia's finance minister Tuesday gave corporate and individual taxpayers some relief by lowering taxes while announcing government expenditure increases of nearly 20 percent.

"The non-mining company tax will be reduced by one percent from 34 to 33 percent this April and another one per cent in 2014 to 32 percent," finance minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said while tabling the budget in parliament.

A small earthquake shook the capital of Haiti - Port-au-Prince, on Monday, causing people in the capital to scramble out of buildings in fear.

Kenya has banned three marathon runners for doping offences, including the first case of an athlete using the banned blood booster EPO, the country's national athletics body said on Thursday.

UN rejects Haiti cholera damages claim

The United Nations on Thursday formally rejected a multibillion-dollar damages claim for a cholera epidemic in Haiti that has been widely blamed on U.N. peacekeepers.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 and depth of 110 km rattled sections of Trinidad early Sunday morning.

It is reported that the tremor was also felt in Grenada.

Zambia minister bunjee jumps over Zambezi in a bid to assure tourists

Zambia’s minister of Tourism Given Lubinda (pictured), has bungee jumped from the Victoria Falls Bridge in an effort to reassure tourists after a New Year's eve accident where an Australian woman plunged into the crocodile-infested Zambezi River after her rope snapped.

The woman, 22-year-old Erin Langworthy, miraculously survived the 111-metre fall with just cuts, bruises and a broken collar-bone after managing to swim ashore.

Nigerian Adamu Waziri: creates "Bino and Fino", Africa's answer to Dora the Explorer

Bino and Fino

A Nigerian animator has produced an educational cartoon to teach youngsters about African culture.
Tired of African children watching only imported cartoons that didn't reflect their lives, for Nigerian architect turned animator, Adamu Waziri decided to do something about it.

His creation is "Bino and Fino" , a cartoon aimed at three to five year olds, about a brother and sister who live with their grandparents in an unnamed African city.

Joe Frazier gravely ill - liver cancer

It has been confirmed that former heavyweight boxing champion and icon Joe Frazier, (pictured), is in serious condition after being diagnosed with liver cancer.

Frazier, who earned boxing immortality after three epic fights with Muhammad Ali, is in hospice care.

Frazier is eternally linked with Ali thanks to their trilogy of fights in the 1970s which rank among the most famous ever in the sport. Frazier won the first and Ali took the next two.
